Main Fish Species Page

The Fish Species are broken down into broad groups for easy browsing. These are not taxonomic groups, they're functional groups for fishermen. At the end of each listing, you can view all of the lifelist entries, articles, notable catches, and trip reports containing this species. If you wish to add a species to this list, you must have caught it yourself and have a good photograph of it. To have a species added, just click Request New Species and enter the common name, scientific name, and photo of the fish into the new species form. Hybrids, subspecies, and color morphs are not tracked separately - please enter them under a species.

At the bottom of each species group page, the "micro" species are listed as thumbnails. These are species that either don't reach a pound in weight or cannot be angled without resorting to highly specialized "microfishing" tactics. We've added them mainly to help people recognize any of these fish they may have accidentally caught. Identification of these tiny fish species is often difficult or impossible, even for trained biologists. For this reason, micro fish species don't count for contests or for official lifelists. Please take micro fish species listings with a huge grain of salt as none of them should be considered official or correct.
