Swampfish, Chologaster cornuta

Distantly related to the cavefishes and the pirate perch, the swampfish is a small, secretive creature that lives on the Atlantic coastal plain from Virginia to Georgia. It has a small horn in front of each eye and three stripes down each side. Unlike its cave-dwelling relatives, this fish has small but functional eyes. It lives in thick vegetation, hiding during the day and only venturing out to feed at night.

Other Names: Ricefish, Riceditch Killifish
