The Alabama Shad is an anadromous species of shad, living in the Gulf of Mexico and making immense spawning runs up the rivers of the Gulf Coast. Historically these runs have been documented as far as Louisville on the Ohio River, Knoxville on the Tennessee River, and Keokuk, Iowa on the Mississippi River, though these runs have been greatly diminished from the construction of dams.
