Swamp Eels are an eel-like air breathing fish native to Southeast and Eastern Asia. They are considered established in the Everglades of Southern Florida and as well as areas surrounding Tampa and Atlanta. Recent genetic analysis has shown that there may be several Monopterus species in the U.S., however they are visually indistinguishable.
