The Hardhead Minnow is a giant in the minnow family, capable of reaching lengths over three feet, though one foot is more typical. They are a California endemic, inhabiting the Sacramento, San Joaquin, and Russian River drainages. Hardhead Minnows are considered fairly common, however some populations have been extirpated due to habitat alteration and introduction of nonnative species.
