Inconnu Sheefish Eskimo Tarpon Stenodus leucichthys

The word inconnu means "unknown" in French. This majestic fish is the largest of all the whitefishes, reaching weights of over eighty pounds. Also known as sheefish, inconnu are found in the far northern reaches of North America, in Alaska and Northwestern Canada. Some inconnu are migratory. Inconnu are highly predatory, and will eat anything they can fit into their cavernous, tarpon-like mouths. Large bucktail flies, spoons, and spinners are good baits to use when pursuing this fish.
