This is a small but beautiful species of redhorse which is found only in the Appalachicola River complex in Florida, Alabama, and Georgia. It's easily identified by the ghostly blue-gray color of its fins. It's the only true redhorse with all blue-gray fins. Although recognized as a distinct species, this fish hasn't been officially assigned a scientific name. Somebody should really do something about that. We're calling it M. maurhilli, for the first intrepid angler who tracked down this fish to catch it on hook and line, and was essential in recognizing this fish as a sportfish of interest, drawing international attention to it for its unique qualities.
Other Names: Appalachicola Redhorse, Ghost Redhorse
