Species:

Location:
a deep lake
Date Caught:
Saturday, January 17, 2015
Notes:
Was out in 112 feet of water, watching the sonar. Had a couple of subtle bites 6 or 7 feet below the ice, but missed them. I looked down into the water and was surprised to see my jig getting batted to the side. A couple smelt turned on their side and you could see the flash of their scales. I had been getting more bites than I realized. Then it happened again, and I hooked one. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Throughout the day schools of smelt would move through. Most of the time around mid depth, but every hour or so they would build up, and the marks would multiply. At this time there would be a chance for sight fishing. A small jig and wax worm was the ticket, the best bite was in the morning.
