Are we going to try to have sort of a kids' contest this year? My girls are excited to fish for 5-15 minutes at a time, a few times, and get their pictures taken with fish and the button.

I posted the following in the general discussion forum:
OK, who's got kids interested in a low pressure kids' species contest? I have 2, but who knows how much they'll really be into it when it's hot out or they'd rather swim. They do want to fish. Definitely.
Same questions as last year come up: should the kids really be competing for kid with most species? Should there be age brackets, like 0-8, and 9-16? At what age is a kid not a kid for the purposes of the contest? If there's to be a champ, what's his or her (probably her) prize? Can they share a button with a parent? What's the punishment for an adult who tries to dress up as a kid?

My Granddaughter Madelyn is 10 and had a great time with the Contest last year. She has been talking about doing it again this Summer and can't wait. She'll compete with the adults if necessary. As far as she is concerned, there need not be any prizes. She was proud of her certificate.
Just throwing it out there that I encourage parents to get their kids involved in our June species contest. Any thoughts about prizes or cool certificates ? Who has kids that want to participate? I know we need to get serious about contest prep very soon...
I am making the certificates for last year's kids I know they're a little late but I'm going to have them out to people soon. I also plan to make certificates for this years kids. I know that if there is no kids fishing contest this year my daughters will absolutely kill me so there has to be a kids division. Iris has already been talking about how hard she has to work to repeat so now we're in in full preparation mode for the kids contest in my house. She's already planning what spots she wants to hit for certain species!

I think a separate leader board would be cool, but I vaguely recall there being some reason you determined it wasn't workable or wasn't worth it or something last year. Maybe there could be a way to differentiate the kids from the adults within the main leader board? Different color type maybe? But I do think having their own contest would make some kids feel less self-conscious about their numbers since they wouldn't be down low in a list of adults with dozens of species. Might be a good way to pull in more kids and get more kids hooked on rough fishing. Either way, it's going to be great.

Thanks, Corey! I registered both kids on the kids' contest, but you'll have to un-register them from the regular one as I don't see a way to do it myself.

My dad was wondering the same thing.
I am thinking it may depend on how many kids are involved.

I can make a seperate kid's contest pretty easily. We'll use the same button/image.
