Crappie, Black Zivs

First Crappie. Surface feeding everywhere in this ditch but only managed the one. I didn't and still don't understand Crappie behavior.

Pretty sure this is a Black Crappie.  Appears to have 7 dorsal spines (Whites have 6).  Also the White Crappie's dorsal fin is shorter (length less than the distance from the front of the dorsal fin to the eye in the White - similar distance in the Black).

You can't go by color.  Black Crappie can be very pale.

Thanks. I am pretty sure you're right. Not that familiar with Crappie and it hadn't occured to me that a Black Crappie could be white!
