The picture doesn't do justice to this fish! The colors just don't pop the way they did when I got him out of the water. You also can't see a row of black spots running down the center of his back from the dorsal fin to the base of the tail.

This species has the smallest geographic range of any North American minnow, occurring only in the Powell and Clinch Rivers (though it's been several years since it was collected from the Clinch).

Killer man, endemics are the most gourmet of gourmet micros.

I didn't even know how restricted their range was until I started researching right there on the riverbank.  That was fun!  I definitely prefer that spot on the Powell to the others that I've fished.  I've caught tons of striped shiners there, seen smallmouth bass, trout, rock bass, and white suckers.  It's where I've caught this lifer, as well as my lifer logperch, river redhorse, and black redhorse.  I've also heard credible reports of some nice catfish and toothywusses (what Bearded Alex calls walleye & sauger) coming out of that spot as well.

I freakin' love this!  Praise from two of the rockstars of the roughfishing world!  It's a good day for setting fire to something!

Yeah, me too. I think the last time they were collected from the Clinch by biologists was the year I finished high school.
