I think the shovelnose is such a cool fish. Great pictures too. And what a fishy looking spot you got there. Congrats.

Nice one! You've caught some good fish this year. I've banged my head against the wall too many times on this species. I'm prepared to say: shovelnose are one of the hardest fish to catch in Minnesota. At least for my brother and I they are... looks like we need to hit wisconsin's rivers.

Trust me, they are more common to catch in MN than anywhere I've fished in WI but they are a misunderstood fish.

 

The Chippewa resident population is very small (it has seen a massive decline since the 60s), normally I only bump into the ones that run up to spawn - probably from the Mississippi. Usually I find them while fishing mostly for Silvers and sometimes Shortheads

 

Either way, great catch!

Congrats on a tough catch in WI, Graceclaw!  If you do end up fishing the MN river you will run into lots of this species if you put your time in.
