Central Mudminnow, Umbra limi

 

Related to the pike family, mudminnows are small, big-mouthed ambush predators. They rarely reach five inches long and are found in streams, ditches, marshes, and ponds. Mudminnows can tolerate poor water quality and are very common throughout Central North America.
