Catfishes

Catfishes are distinguished by their many barbels, or whiskers, and their lack of scales. North American catfishes also have stout spines at the origin of their dorsal and pectoral fins. Catfishes are stout, muscular fish that use their incredible sense of smell to locate their prey. Because of this, scent-based baits are popular for catfish anglers, and secret arcane concoctions that give off noxious odors are their stock in trade.
