Catostomus discobolus - Bluehead Sucker

An elongated sucker of the desert southwest and the Colorado River basin. Mature adult bluehead suckers sport bright blue heads, as viewed from above, a feature which allows for easy identification - although the populations in the Little Colorado River lack this feature. Overall, this is a highly variable species that might be in need of some genetic work. Blueheads grow quite large; a five-pounder wouldn't be an unusual catch.
