It was caught in freshwater 60 miles from the Gulf. They're catadromous and spend the summer up in freshwater rivers and streams.

My opinion is that striped mullet caught in freshwater should count for the contest. They spend months far inland and in true (not brackish) freshwater and in my experience, they are much easier to catch in freshwater than in salt so I wouldn't worry to much about the odds that a contestant is posting a mullet that they actually got in saltwater.
Since American shad, American eel, and several salmon species are contest-eligible I suggest that striped mullet should also be fair game.

ditto here! I say just put it up on the contest and wait until corey decides whether or not to keep it there. nice catch by the way.

Striped mullet do count for the contest. Not sure if they're on the list, but I ruled on this a few years back and they are enough of a freshwater species to qualify.
In order for it to count you have to grow out your hair into a mullet and either dye or bleach stripes into it and then catch the fish.
