The Atlantic Salmon is an ocean fish, transplanted into some of the Great Lakes while being eradicated from Lake Ontario. Some populations are completely landlocked, but the Atlantics have not done very well in our local waters. Still one hears occasionally of an Atlantic being caught in the tributaries on the North Shore of Lake Superior, and there is still a feeble spawning run on a few streams. The Atlantic Salmon will most likely die out in Lake Superior. While they are a wonderful, hard-fighting fish, they do not belong here and are not particularly well-suited to the harsh, infertile conditions of Lake Superior.
