A Spring kayak trip on the Cannon River should be high on any paddler's list.
We floated the Cannon today from Fairbault down to Dundas, then again from Fairbauilt to about halfway to Dundas. On the water for probably 9 hours, and I only soaked a crawler for a total of 15 minutes. I did manage to catch my first carp of the year, a strong 5 pounder that tore me up on the UL and took me 40 yards downstream through a little rapids.
There are some awesome bluffs along this stretch of river.
Trust me, I was taking serious mental notes on areas to fish when I float this stretch again. So much good water, and what a great arena to fish in! Can't wait to hit it with angling in mind.
I managed to grab a painted turtle for a few shots
We ran into the sheriff in his jon boat, scouring the river looking for the body of a young woman who recently drowned in this stretch of river. We were greeted by "You guys just kayaking or looking for the body?" I was positive we would find it, because the river had dropped a vertical foot since we began paddling and new sweeper branches were exposed. However, we didn't and that is just fine with me.
This cool ancient mill sat on the river at our take-out spot in Dundas. It was really a neat place and I took a lot of photos.
Anyway, I just thought I would share a little bit of the Cannon's beauty with you. I think this is my first ever post that didn't include any fish photos. I'm calling it a scouting mission.......
