Master Species ListThis is the full list of all the North American freshwater sportfish species. If you were the best angler in North America, this is what your lifelist would look like. If you know of a new fish which should be on this list, please let us know. Remember, hybrids and strains are NOT species. In order to be a sportfish, the species needs to get big enough to attain a pound in weight, preferably two pounds. In order to be a "freshwater" species, it must be either anadramous or catadromous, habitually spending a significant portion of its life in freshwater. Just because you caught it in fresh water does not mean it is a freshwater species.
