Rare blue sucker in the Colorado River, Texas south of Austin. Jumped 3 times....a great fight. Filmed and released back home.
Unless I'm really confused, I think I see your jerkbait in its back. Most people here aren't terribly snobbish about these kind of things- you obviously didn't do it on purpose, and you found a place with blue suckers even though you didn't fair hook one (yet)- but it doesn't count as a lifelist entry or anything like that on here.
If the hook actually was inside of its mouth, just tell me so.
I think what you are seeing Susquehannock is part of his shirt design. That is a wicked-looking blue sucker, all dark and gnarly.
Congrats on a freak fantastic catch!
All you had to do was ask....nicely would have been...well, nice. Andy gave you exactly what you see in the pic. There is one of the fish in the net with the lure where he was hooked....yes right on the nose at the mouth....
I guess I was just that skeptical of the idea of a sucker on a jerkbait. Sorry man, that is an incredibly epic catch.
Wow, this is the stuff of a roughfiserman’s wet dreams! HUGE Congrats on one hell of a lifer!! This is one of the coolest and most bad ass looking blue suckers I’ve had the pleasure to see! Wow wow wow
First of all, insane catch.
Secondly would the location of this catch make this fish a Rio Grande Blue Sucker (Cycleptus undescribed) or is it just a "normal" Blue Sucker (C. Elongatus)?
Far as everything I've read, all the blue suckers in the lower Colorado River, TX are C. elongatus. Guy I was fishing with had two friends who each caught one 3 or 4 years ago while using crawdad pattern flies on flyrod. I was shocked to see this fish clear the water not only once but 3 times. I had no clue what it was until we got it close.
I've been saying that many of these new expensive jerk baits are sucker bait :-)
Gosh that is still one of the coolest fish ever! I love that dark coloration so much, do you have the vide or any other pics? I just can't get enough of that fish!
I'd love to see it. Such a cool fish!
Is there a way to add a photo in the comment section or do I have to make an entirely new entry??
Man that is such a rad looking Blue! Congrats and welsome to the site!
