Suprise bullhead through the ice!

Caught a suprise bullhead today while checking out a lake in my neighborhood. After screaming "what the hell are you?" over and over at the fish I marked four feet under the hole, I was pretty shocked to have hooked up with this black bullhead. I was able to catch two of them, this being the biggest. Pretty neat I must say, and species #3 for species that aren't lifers, but new to ice fishing. Pretty exciting stuff! :)

Neon green swetish pimple with a wax worm. The first one I caught was maybe 3 inches long, the jig was half the size of its body lol

I have hooked and lost bullheads through the ice before and my dad caught a couple once. That's not easy to do, nice fish!

I'm so envious!  I've targeted bullheads through the ice for a while now. I've had a few incidental catches over the years, but have never been able to figure out a consistent pattern.  Nice work!

Bad ass!  One random time we absolutly clobbered the bullheads thru the ice.  Caught like 25 or 30 of them within a couple hours.  Caught a few walleyes mixed in as well.  That would be the one and only time that ever happened.  Other than that its just been a here and there thing.  But it would be cool to catch more of them ice fishing.  Just as long as they aren't them tiny sharp spiny bastards that always get you...

Thanks! I'm pretty excited to get back out there and see if I'm able to catch more. Yeah, the tiny one I caught got me but it was a pretty cute bullhead so I couldn't be too mad about it haha

There's a lake near Isanti called long lake where there is one hole and tons of bullheads are there, they just swim around slugishly lol
