Pretty crummy first day

Nothing too great to report about my first day of the June contest. Arrived at the Scumfoot boat landing to find it completely blown out. I've seen this area flooded many times over the years, but this is probably the worst I've seen. At the landing/park area, the water is up to, and past the picnic tables! But, even so, I managed to pull out a small channel cat and a really small sheepshead. Hey, better than nothing, right? Went home and had some lunch and got back out there. Went to a local lake dock to try for some of the ever present sunfish/crappies/perch. Did I mention they are supposed to be "ever present"? Well, they apparently didn't get the memo. Nothing! Not so much as a bite, no matter what I offered them. Then to cap it off, while reeling in to check bait, the rosewood handle on my Pflueger President 6735, FELL OFF and sank to the bottom of the lake! I decided that I better take the 2 species I had and call it a day. Hrumph!~

It doesn't matter what you're fishing for, just as long as you're out there doing it.

At least you guys caught fish

At least you guys caught fish. The water is higher than I have seen it in a long time. I didn't even get a bite and got into an arguement with a bowfisher throwing a carp into the weeds. It didn't help that my attitude was already poor from fishing for 3 hours with nothing to show for it. Heres hoping tomorrow goes better.

Good luck all!

It is all perspective!

No, not same type of reel. It

No, not same type of reel. It was a Mitchell I got as a hand-me-down. I really liked that reel. The wood handle was comfortable and seemed to work well, and then it unscrewed itself while I was fishing in downtown Chicago. Pissed me off.

Rising River Levels

Been tough here with cold front conditions and rising river levels. What is most disconcerting is how high you Minnesota folks are saying the water is up there because that all has to come down here eventually. I know the Mississippi is supposed to come up a few feet over the next week here but it sounds worse than that from what you guys are saying. Either way the fishing is going to be tough here for quite awhile. I did manage to get a gar for a friend today. I missed a few gar on rope but maybe later I'll try minnows.

Gonna hopefully hit a tributary Sunday that isn't affected by the rising river levels for white suckers, smallies, and horse.

There-I-Fixed-It!

Well, after receiving an email back from Pflueger saying my reel was out of warranty, and that I could buy a replacement knob for $20 (!!!), I decided to put my lathe to work. I banged out a replacement handle that will suffice until the contest is over, and have time to make one that isn't quite so ugly. It's not pretty, but it will work for now. .. $20... seriously?
