ok, ok, ok, i know its walleye, but i seem to find them on my flyrod alot, but loose most at my feet/boat. I get them to bite and a strange and wide variety, i was wonder if anyone else take out their five weight and hunts old popular and what do you throw.

usually a bead head leech or a clouser minnow seem to do the trick. i use the leech patterns alot on the cannon river when i carp fish and all the time i catch walleye. they fight pretty good on a fly rod.

I've caught a 20" walleye on a sculpin pattern on my weight 3 rod. The sculpin was tied with olive sculpin wool. It was at the Red Deer River in Alberta in August.

I know a guy who flyfishes the rip-rapped windward shores of Lake Mille Lacs when the storm waves are pounding the rocks ... He flycasts from shore in the rain and uses a big pure black bunny leech; this guy, we'll call him "Tom" (because that's his name) has landed a quite a few ten-pound walleyes on his eight-weight. It sounds like a lot of fun, I almost agreed to do it with him once but if the pictures ever got out there I'd lose all of my roughfishing credentials. I have caught a ton of wet socks (not anything over four pounds though) on clouser minnows myself; you need a solid strip-strike hookset or they flop off.
