So thats what color my backing is! 1 Year, 5 Months ago

I was night fishing walleye and wiper in kansas in a outlet river that has recently been clogged with asian carp, bighead adults and silver carp fingerlings (like 5 to 10 inches). After missing my target fish, i get a bit on my clouser that felt strange but small. I set, and vrooooooommmm! "oh!" i said. "So thats what color my backing is." I was using a six weight! And i had on something i should use a ten weight for. After twenty munites of fighting i landed the beast.

a big head carp, between 13 and 15 pounds, but it could have been much larger.

It was hooked in the mouth. Now this was fun, but this spot had over 600,000 silver carp in the under ten ich range there, and maybe twenty of this big boys. I have seen the big ones there for years. But the silver carp showed up almost over night and clogged the rivere here in kansas. so snag'em net'em shoot em, I don't care, but do your part, kill the monsters.

Ahhh, the next fun fly target is invading. Cool Fish, glad to know a clouser works for them. I think you and C&B are the only ones to have caught them on the site, congrats.

Sweet catch man, I got a couple of those in that were around 4 inches in my cast net last time I was down there.

Nice catch. It would be cool to add one of those to the lifelist. They have a face only a mother could love. I should go down to my sister's in Peoria one of these days to see if I can tangle with one of them.

That is the best fish I've seen on here all year, very nice catch.
The bait you were using makes complete sense for what they would pickup. Congrats on a great fish and photo.

I'd love to pursue them in their native habitat. But in North America? I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with you.

Agreed, all fish are sportfish. If they're here, why not fish for them????? People don't throw a fit about Peacock bass in Fla., they're embracing them.

I think it would be fun to try out some of those techniques I learned in Thailand on a water infested with them carp. Anybody up for a road trip?
And I don't think the average fisherman would keep these spots a secret. They would probably drive you right to them.

I will admit there was a time that I secretly was hoping they'd get to MN sooner (and still, every so often that thought reoccurs.).
But more recently I have found myself hoping they do not take hold up this way, or maybe even more, in the Great Lakes. I spent a lot of time while trolling Salmon this year wondering if they could do the damage some say they will. And I really hope I never get to find out.
I also spend a lot of time boating/fishing the rivers with my kids/family and I don't look forward to the day I have to worry about a fish knocking my kid out while traveling down river.
If it's got fins I love to catch it, but there are some species I'd rather catch in their home, not mine.
I too respectfully disagree with your statement.
Also, Professor Fish- What makes a clouser a good fly? Do they feed on baitfish (I didn't think so) or is it because it kind of looks like a clump of algae or something? Some day I'd like to target them.
