Well I just get in from a Nice night of fishing with Gary.
We decided to stop talking about trying for flatheads and cats and just get off our butts and do it.
We caught some green sunfish 4"-6" for bait and fished near a local bridge.
Rather then attempting to cast the big baits out we set the poles in the holders at the base of the bridge and walked the bait out to the deeper water a third of the way out on the bridge and dropped the bait down.
It worked GREAT! something to try if the situation fits it.
Much better then a long cast.
Although we did get odd looks from cars as we walked the sidewalk on the bridge holding a flopping sunfish.
We both got our lines in and no matter then a half an hour Gary's pole went off. After a tough fight he landed a Nice male channel cat.
As I was running back to the car to grab the camera I see Gary running for my pole. GACK! I knew it, you turn your back and thats when they hit.
I ran up in time and managed to get to the pole while it was still taking line, BAM! after another fight I landed a nice looking flathead. Actually my biggest flathead to date.
So a photo of Gary,s fish and a photo of mine and we were back at it.
The cats seemed to go away for us, but Gary did hook into a good sized drum on a 4" sunfish.
All and all a Great night for us. Beautiful weather, Catfish, and nobody was around. Other then the drunk girl falling off of her bike... repeatedly... and the couple in the car in the parking lot. lol
Agh I love Oshkosh, and to think this was all 5 minutes from my house.
