Facing my fear. 2 Months ago
|
|
|
This is an email I sent out just now. I know it is funny!
So.................................I wanted to send out this email because I am going to be facing one of my fears this evening. I am meeting my sister at White Bear Lake and I am going to go fishing with her and Stephanie in her boat. Ha, ha, ha.....you thought meeting my SISTER was the scary part.
I am TERRIFIED of being IN the water.........so, being on a boat ON the water is as close as one can get to being IN the water without being IN it. So, YES, I have my lifejacket right next to me RIGHT NOW......and you are damn right I will be wearing it and anyone who sees me will laugh and that will be just fine.
SO, I wanted to send this email to you all in case I fall out of the boat and get eaten by the creepy things that live in the deep water.
I know......I fish ALL the time and am afraid of the water. Not just standing in the water but like in the LAKE water over my head.
I love pools and all that.........but I have this idea that something scary lives in the water.
Okay..............so, hopefully I will make it back to tell you how it went.

I see you're online, so I guess you made it somehow despite all of the boogeyfish and whatnot lurking in the water......just kidding, a lot of folks are afraid of falling into the lake and I gotta give you props for going out and facing your fears. Looks like you were rewarded with a few species for the contest too. Please, tell us how you managed to survive. ~andy

"Forget you're a purist. Just because this rig is reminiscent of your old still-fishing outfit is no reason for alarm. We're still going to fish in a refined manner. We'll imagine this bait of ours is the latest fad in artificials, a highly advertised killer. There, you see? A bit of psychology works wonders. We are about to fly-fish with a worm." -Byron W. Dalrymple

Ah...........I made it! I was actually not afraid or anything once I got in the boat. The boat is just a 16foot fishing boat that someone put a floor in with a nice bench in the back. It was great.
It felt somewhat "exotic" as the water was so clear....The fishing was SMOKING hot. We were fishing with floats using crawler, Crappie minnows and waxies. As the hook hit the water BEFORE the float even got to the water we had fish. The Sunfish were CRAZY and they were good sized! My sister wanted to keep some so we did. I brought them home and cleaned them for her. There was some nice LM action, but as you can tell from my contest picture.....they weren't really big. Most of them were bigger, but that was the only one I caught. The Rockbass were hogs.....just huge.
So.........there were no boogeythings in the water......BUT, we had a TON of trouble loading the boat......and it was dark...SO.......I had to get in the water.........which SUCKED, because Stephy and I drove home soaking wet. (I am not afraid of the water if I wade in, just if I was to be tossed in the middle of the lake.) I got a really big gash on the back of my leg, which I didn't even know about until I got him.................
BUT, it was really a good time. :)

I am ready and waiting! Thanks.
I was always the kid who was careful and the scaredy cat. My cousins all tease me. My cousin wanted to make me sit in the car once because I wouldn't go on the rollercoaster!

Congrats Paula!!!
Facing ones fear is tough, I'm glad you got out there! A whole new facet of fishing awaits you. Just don't forget the pure aspect of fishing...getting your butt dirty sitting on a bank! :)
I have a fear that will be a tough one to overcome. I'm fine with heights.. I have a problem with depths! I know it's a weird one, but hey.. I'm weird so.. lol

Paula, I finally caught my 1st flat of the year the other nite. It was pretty slow. It was too late to pickup bullies so we stopped & bought some sucker minnows instead. Nothing but crawler-line action all nite, a few sheepies & a small channel. Then at the last second around 2AM, as I'm passing out with Haylee & getting ready to call it a nite, FINALLY I get my contest Flathead! It was slow but: MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!! Lol(:
I'm thinking we should prolly wait a little bit to go though. Todd was telling me they spawn between like June 15th'ish & July. Although I've caught several nice Flatties fishing on the 4th of July but always on the MN River, not the Miss. So yeah, I guess ya never know. Anyway, the contest is over in like 4 days now so we'll plan then....
(:
