Fox River Report 6 Months, 3 Weeks ago
With the price of gas being $4/gallon, I still drove across the state of Wisconsin to persue White Perch and Salmon. I needed a Coho and a White Perch for the lifelist so off I went. I must admit it is getting harder to catch a new species for me so I got my dad involved in the whole endeavor by making him a species album like my own.

I quickly learned that over here very few people understand the whole idea of catching roughfish and keeping a lifelist. While one gentlemen bragged that we should have been there 2 months ago when the walleyes were in as thick as peanut butter, I was pulling in a 15 lb. carp that was putting up a tremendous fight. I replied, "I bet they don't fight as hard as these Carp do." He agreed but assumed we wanted the walleye but then I learned it was pretty much a catch and release fishery there for walleye. So why would I want to stand shoulder to shoulder catching walleyes when I would have to throw them back anyway? Why, when I can have the whole shore to myself 2 months later catching 20 lb. carp, 6 lb. Sheephead, and various other species? Don't get me wrong here; I like walleyes too.

Here is our catch:

PB 20 lb. Carp

PB 6 lb. Sheephead

Big White Perch

Those are great fish. I am sort of really digging sheephead this year. If I get a nice one I am going to mount it.

Nice fish, in both waters. I recently have talked to two guys who placed first and second in a Carp tournament on the Fox, and they told me it is a fantastic big-carp fishery. They caught numerous fish over 25 pounds, the largest at 34! Nice carp, C&B, way to go. A 20 pound carp is definitely a milestone in your fishing legacy. !andy

Fishing, if I, a fisher, may protest
Of pleasures is the sweet'st, of sports the best,
Of excercises the most excellent,
Of recreations the most innocent.
But now the sport is marred, and wot ye why?
Fishes decrease, and fishers multiply.

That was the one thing that impressed me about that water. I don't know of any other water where the average carp is over 15 lbs. and the average Drum is 4 lbs. Just think if I would have had more time than half a day and boat to get me around a bit. We had 4 lines out between the two of us and I literally could not keep up (in WI you can 3 lines per person). We must have caught close to 100 fish in 5 hours.
