With the price of gas being $4/gallon, I still drove across the state of Wisconsin to persue White Perch and Salmon. I needed a Coho and a White Perch for the lifelist so off I went. I must admit it is getting harder to catch a new species for me so I got my dad involved in the whole endeavor by making him a species album like my own.
I quickly learned that over here very few people understand the whole idea of catching roughfish and keeping a lifelist. While one gentlemen bragged that we should have been there 2 months ago when the walleyes were in as thick as peanut butter, I was pulling in a 15 lb. carp that was putting up a tremendous fight. I replied, "I bet they don't fight as hard as these Carp do." He agreed but assumed we wanted the walleye but then I learned it was pretty much a catch and release fishery there for walleye. So why would I want to stand shoulder to shoulder catching walleyes when I would have to throw them back anyway? Why, when I can have the whole shore to myself 2 months later catching 20 lb. carp, 6 lb. Sheephead, and various other species? Don't get me wrong here; I like walleyes too.
Here is our catch:
PB 20 lb. Carp
PB 6 lb. Sheephead
Big White Perch
