Oink Oink!!! 6 Months, 2 Weeks ago
|
|
My avitar photo is from a hunt I did for fun at a ranch in Iowa with some guys from an archery league I am in.
Not all the shots are mine but the last one is it took me 3 shots to take my pig down and I felt bad because the middle shot that did not get taped was a bad shot. I did the video for the shop that I went with and I would not tape anything I thought was offensive(there were things I did not tape)
This was in an encloser and I am not trying to start a huge disscusion...I struggle with my ethics on this topic so if you would like to see the 5 minute video it is here for you to see if not I understand.
Disclamer.....It is graphic with blood.

Nice! There is a big problem with wild boar down in Wisconsin's Kickapoo Valley near Gays Mills. No license required, just permission from the landowner. There is a lot of state land there, too. You and your archery buddies might want to consider a trip - not only could you have some fun, you might be able to do your part to get rid of an invasive, destructive species.

I would be up for that!
Much cheaper!!!
The nice thing about a ranch is you will see them at least. My cousin in Texas said they just come around once in a while where he is and it would be too hard to get one where he lives.
If anyone knows a landowner I would make the trip. I could use another 150 pounds of pork.

I'd try giving the DNR office in Prairir du Chien WI a call. That's the county seat, and i would bet that they could put you in touch with landowners who are having a hog problem. They root up newly planted crops, plus they have been breeding with farmer's domestic hogs and ruining litters of marketable pigs. The county ag agent in Crawford County might be able to help, too.
No one knows where the damned things came from, but some think a game farm must have inadvertently released them. I have heard that they can get BIG!

That's cool. I got a chance to hunt some hogs a couple years ago in Arkansas, while I visited my parents. Dad and I got out to the ranch at 6:30, and I had my pig by 9:30. We had rifles, but next time I'll be taking my longbow. And probably a sidearm.
I saw over 20 hogs, Dad saw more. I got to within 15 yards of a group of about seven before they winded me, got up, and ran off in single file. Eventually, as Dad and I were walking a ridge, a couple pigs came out of a brushpile and one offered a clean shot.
Free range pork... It's tasty, man. I grilled most of it, and made pulled pork sandwiches with the rest. Awesome.
Congrats on the pig... I won't get into the High Fence thing. It's too big of a worm can.
