Gunnar 3 Months, 1 Week ago
|
|
Can't believe it's finally almost here. I've been drooling with anticipation since I first heard of this contest in the last week of June last year.
I live outside Chicago, but I'll probably do a lot of my contest fishing in southern Wisconsin. I'll be ecstatic to break 20 species, happy with 15. It's a busy month, and I'll be traveling to Seattle and Port Townsend with my 2 kids (to a cousin's wedding, so lots of family obligations while there) for a week and a half of it, so will likely do no fishing during that time. I'll be packing a rod or two, though, just in case. I figure they should at least let me go fishing for a few hours on Father's Day. I wonder what fresh water species exist out there that don't exist here...
I put new line on 2 new fly reels last night, so I'm ready.
Olaf (Gunnar is my middle name)
Now I'm going to get busy copying photos from other people's life lists and photoshopping myself into them, changing backgrounds, and leaving a blank cirle into which I'll paste the button later. I should have 100 species by June 1st.

"The bowfin is wholly carnivorous, and exceedingly voracious....He is the ravening wolf of the dark lagoons, the nightmare of the slumbrous coves. Skulking in deep water by day, he invades the teeming shallows by night, spreading terror and bloody execution in his wake." Carp--first of my life.
Fox River, North Aurora, IL
They were clooping bits of plant matter off the surface in a little eddy under some trees. Took me only a few minutes to get one to suck in the little 1/64oz jig with 1" twister tail grub, but took an hour to get one into the net. First one broke off, second one straightened the hook, third one landed.
It wasn't a real convenient spot for photography, and I couldn't lay him down on the ground. Hope the printout of the button is visible enough.

Rock Bass--the only thing biting today on the DuPage River other than mosquitoes. The bugs drove me off the river. It was horrible. My handy mosquito net was in the car, of course.
