Macro is for close up photos like for flies.
In a camera yo are looking for something that is easy to learn and has the features you want.
As for a camera for underwater also I would say to buy a housing for the camera that you buy and like.
My personal preference is on the Canon Digital Elf I have 2 of these in different models. The one prefer to use is 7 mega pixel.
MP or mega pixel simply put is refering to the resolution that is possible. Such as a 3 mp camera will not have the ability to enlarge a photo with good quality(without getting grainy) as a 7 mp camera.
feel free to ask any time with more ???

When I remember the camera I always put it in a ziploc bag. My canoe doesn't leak either, but with the water from the paddle and fish, plus the rain, I never take chances.

I tend to look for features that will allow me to take the type of picture that I want very quickly so that I'm able to release the fish with a minimum of handling and time of the water. So for me that means getting a camera with a fast processor speed, easy access to the functions that I'm going to use the most (one button press to activate macro, self-timer, flash on/off, etc...). The layout of the buttons and menu is important for that reason.

I like the bigger tripods that extend to give a higher vantage point for the camera. I just look funny when I have to crouch for the picture if the tripod is set low to the ground. On my boat I have a blank pedestal without a seat on it and I simply bungy cord the bottom of the tripod around that for stability so it doesn't fall out of the boat.
Stress on the fish is another reality, especially with species like musky. To take the photo and release ASAP is the goal and being prepared is the best advice.
The best situation is to take a fishing buddy with you to take your photo though. I have taught my dad what to look for when taking a photo for me and he has improved in his photo taking abilities.
Hey SK Justin, your Macros look great.
