Knuth, man, that is awesome. Let it be known that I will be targeting big drum that day in hopes of winning the prize. I've got some tricks up my sleeve, although there are some fairly good drum anglers(they won't admit it though) who will be attending.

Also, I really like the pot-luck idea for a derby prize. Corey and I had no idea what the prize would be anyway. I say just add whatever you want to the pot -- preferably fishing related, but exceptions could be made for jerky or smoked fish or something. Hooks, weights, swivels, lures, flies, dozen shiners, whatever. We could have 2nd or 3rd place prizes too, depending on how big a pile of goodies there is.

Re:Scumfoot Roundup! 3 Months ago
All right, here are some Scumfoot roundup details as far as I know...........

Seems like most folks with boats will be showing up at Hidden Falls park to launch around 8 or 9 am. Feel free to show up earlier, though, because some pretty good fishing can be found right by the ramp while you wait.

If you want a ride out to the island, PM either Dr. Flathead, Avidfly or Corey as they will definitely have boats. I will most likely kayak. If anyone else is bringing a boat and has room for people, speak up.

Kayak/canoers - - - - It may be cool to go upriver as a group. We should try to make that happen, so chime in on when you will be getting there. Also, any boaters be aware that you cannot go beyond the sign, which is I believe 300 ft below the dam. The sheriff will ticket you if he sees you up there.

The species derby will begin at high noon, when some sort of crazy sound will announce the beginning. If you are attending, please bring something small to contribute to the prize pot. There will also be a fantastic prize for the biggest drum caught.

Bring some lunch or something to snack on, and beverages. If there is interest in griling out there, let me know and I will bring a grill. Also, be prepared to relieve yourself in the bushes. We won't look. I imagine the derby will run for 3 hours, then the prize ceremony will be held. After this, whatever's clever.........I'm sure everyone has their own agenda for the remainder of the day. Rich had mentioned the possibility of a post-roundup get-together at his place, and that sounds like a great idea(If nothing else, he and I will probably sit around and BS by ourselves). Please, if you are interested in going over to Rich's after, post here so he knows how many crazy roughfishers to expect. He lives just a few casts away from Scumfoot.

This is going to be great!

Any questions? ~andy

I am going to canoe over to the island and will be there by noon.

Not sure as to what will happen afterwards but I have a place to crash in Woodbury if need be.

Re:Scumfoot Roundup! 3 Months ago
Just an update on my plans and ferry services. I'm putting in at Hidden Falls with Tyler W around 8:30/9am. Anyone needing a ride at that time let me know or be at the landing. I'll be making at least one run back between 10:30/11:00am to pick up JKnuth and his crew. I have room for 8, so anyone needing a lift at that time let me know. PM me and I'll send my phone number. I can also make more runs if needed.

My only issue is that I'll be leaving immediately after the derby, so if your plans are to hang around a bit, you might need to find another shuttle back.

scumfoot roundup 3 Months ago
Hello All! First post at a great new site I was directed to by a friendly fisher I met at the Hidden Falls launch over the Labor Day weekend. He mentioned that a great bunch of fishers were getting together at the island below the dam this weekend for some multi-species fishing fun. I was hoping I could catch a ride with some one Saturday morning as I am not able to swim very well with a fishing rod in hand. I plan to be at the landing early in the hope that some one will have an open seat remaining. Please let me know if you would like me to bring anything. Thank you!

I would bring something to throw into the pot for the species Derby. Personally, I am going to go to Gander and get one of my favorite lures to contribute. Other than that I will be bringing food, water and bait.

Andy -

Please bring a grill....

Also - if you have any secret flies for scumfoot I would be interested in seeing the patterns.

I am bringing a few fly rods if anyone is interested in casting or fishing them. Although it may cut into the species derby but who knows it may be the gear of choice.

My Dad and I have yet to catch a Buff or a River....

We will be there.

H-man.

Welcome aboard ChemE.
I wont be one of the guys with a boat, but I am sure someone would be willing to shuttle you over.

Slight change of plans for me.
I will NOT be bringing my Kayaks.
after talking to a few people I just dont think its needed.
I doubt I will use them and the do add a bit of drag to my car and make me get carpy gas millage.

I also realized that I am coming down with a cold. and that is LAME!
I am still going for sure but sitting in a kayak my not be that fun for me.

See you all in the morning.

ChemE, you are more than welcome out at Scumfoot! Just show up to the launch around 8:30 and look for somebody wearing a roughfish.com hat, and introduce yourself. Also, welcome to the website! We have a lot of fun here...........

Esub --- I will bring some kind of grilling device, as well as a few select fly patterns for Scumfoot. Flyfishing can be phenomenal out there at times. Keep in mind that it is quite rocky and snaggy. Wooly b's and worms, clousers and the like work for drum, cats, walleyes, bass, and bring a few carp patterns as well. ~andy

Heather and I will need a boat ride to the island. We'll probably be getting there around 10-10:30. If someone is able to ferry us across, please send me a private message with your phone number/etc.

Thanks!

Re:scumfoot roundup 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
EVERYONE!

OK, so I feel pretty stupid that I have been out of the loop on this entire string, forgetting there was a Roundup forum. But here I am. I will be showing up just after 8am likely (since I think I live closer than anyone), and will probably bring my kayak. I love andy's idea for paddling upstream, Armada style. The drift back is nice; just float and cast.

I also have an extra kayak and canoe if someone needs it. Post here if you are interested.

I'll bring some odds and ends for the prize, too. AvidFly knows my hatred for drum, but if I can win that drum prize, I'll never complain again. Corey would have won this last time, I think.

I do intend to have an informal gathering at my place afterward. Just need to know who plans on showing up so I can get enough beer and grilling stuff. (Andy, is it legal to grill on the island, or did you and Heath intend to do that at Hidden Falls? I think there are grills there, perhaps). We will fire up the Chimenea when it cools off. My yard can hold a tent, and I welcome anyone who needs to crash there.

DIRECTIONS TO BAILEY MANOR: Exiting Hidden Falls, go North on the East River Road (left out of the park). Take Ford Parkway west across the river (Go under the bridge and turn right to go West). This becomes 46th St in Minneapolis. Stay on 46th and cross the LRT Tracks, and look for 32nd Ave. Turn right and go 3 blocks, past the church and school across 43rd St. I am the Yellow 2-story on the left, 4250 32nd Ave S. 612-685-4648 if you get lost.

What? Illegal to grill on an island? What kind of commie crap is that? Seriously, I never thought it could be against the law, but if you know better then please enlighten me. ~andy

It was just a thought; not sure what jurisdiction that island falls under. I imagine a weber would not create the problem an open fire would. Seems like a small island surrounded by water would not be too much of an urban fire hazard.

Re:scumfoot roundup 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
There were so many sheriffs and coast guard boats on the river this past week you wouldn't want to even come close to breaking the rules! The coasties were loaded...fixed machine guns on the bow and stern and each of the crew had one. Even the gravel barges had automatic weapon toting guards!! And when I was pulling the boat out I took a peak in a sheriff's boat...they had weapons stuffed all over the boat! It was kind of intimidating...

Still probably be some around this weekend.

Re:scumfoot roundup 2 Months, 4 Weeks ago
AvidFly,

Maybe JK can confirm this, but is it possible all the heavy ordinance was due to the fact that Hippos are in the middle of the fall rut right now? I mean, a bullhippo in the rut is more dangerous than a mother grizzly bear with cubs. I think the coast guard had extra firepower to protect innocent tourists against random hippo attacks.

Seriously, I'm sure the Republican National Convention had something to do with it. They wouldn't want an anarchist rough angler blowing up the Ford Dam, though to do it from below the dam would be nearly as stupid as...well, anarchy in general.
