Scumfoot Roundup! 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
I don't have much to say, other than I can't wait for this event! I'd like to see a roll-call maybe, and also if anyone could ride-share we could save some fossil fuels so let's all get on the same page.

What time?

Who is bringing a boat?

Who plans to kayak/canoe?

Any extra personal watercraft?

We all need bait, so any tips on good baitshops in the area for the folks coming from out of town?

Anyone have any particular lifelist additions they are looking for?(Knuth, I know......show me the mooneye)

We could easily bring a grill and do up some brats or something too.......I'd be more than happy to serve as Derby Chef.

Let's make it an event to be remembered, maybe repeated as an annual festival! Any Scumfooting talk should go in this thread.

OK

1. Rollcall

My, My dad (who cant wait to meet you all), and Gary coming up from Oshkosh WI

2. Time

This is the toughy it is a 4.5 hour drive for us, perhaps 5.

I plan on leaving at 5:00-5:30 and rolling into town at 10:00-10:30
we will all need to find a baitshop to get our Minnesota license, s o that will add some time.

It my be 11:00-11:30 before we realistically get there, but I hope sooner.

3. Watercraft

I will bring my two Kayaks I have shuttled with them before by towing one behind.

4. Lifelists

uhmmm hhmmmmm what was that fish again something eye?
walleye? HECK NO!
uhm
oh yea
MOONEYE!!! the fish that doesnt exist lol

otherwise Smallmouth Buffalo, River Redhorse, Goldeye, Blue sucker. thats it for me in WI
My dad needs some of the redhorse (Silver, Greater, Shorthead) and he wants to catch a Big drum! I told him Crawdads may get him one here.

We are mainly coming out to meet up with good friends and fun fishing.
It would be great if this was an annual thing

The root roundup in the spring, and scumfoot in the fall.

If anyone needs anything or needs me to bring anything give me a shout.

If anyone wants my phone number just send me a PM and Ill get it to you.

I cant wait, this will be an adventure!

I will be there ~ I had a blast at the root river this spring and I am really looking forward to this one in the fall. There are quite a few fish I am looking to encounter for the first time yet - I would say a blue sucker probably tops the wish list but I am not at all picky and will be happy with whatever we can find...

Ha, I may have the pink glove wearer with as well! We might all consider bringing some blue blockers, with all this pink around.

I will be at hidden falls boat launch at about 8 or 9am. Anyone who needs a ride, shoot me a PM, or be at the boat launch around that time.... See ya there!!!

Re:Scumfoot Roundup! 3 Months, 2 Weeks ago
Planning to be there a well with my gal Zoe, although she doesn't have a pink tackle box!! We'll probably plan to kayak up to the island. Between the two of us we've caught walleye, sauger, smallmouth, white bass, carp, drum, mooneye, white sucker, red horse, channel cats, flatheads and even a wierd mottled catfish that I've never seen anywhere else (sorry, no pics of that one). Looking forward to meeting everyone. For anyone coming from the south or east, there is a bait shop on Old Shakopee Road, two blocks SW of Highway 77 on the corner of Old Shakopee and 17th Ave. It is a Spur station, but they have a good bait selection, and high quality! Good luck to everyone.

I will bring my usual cooler-o-crawlers with us. Anywhere from 7-10 dozen usually in there. I'm sure we'll have plenty to share.

I'm hoping to be there. I still have to clear it with my wife. It'll all depend on how tight my leash is that day.

I highly recommend Moore's Bait & Tackle, at 58th and Lyndale in South Minneapolis.

Anyone parking at Hidden Falls: be sure to lock your car doors and don't leave anything valuable in plain view. Nothing bad's happened to me, but I know some folks who've been broken into.

Wow you know you haven't been on here in awhile when you log in and there are over 50 new posts I haven't read. I haven't fished since the beginning of july been working 12 hour days 6 days a week but I would love to take a day off to come to this and meet some of you guys and finally wet a line before summer ends.

What day are you guys planning on? I must have missed that. Also I don't know if I would have transportation to the island anyone have any room for me and possibly my brother? I'll post back later when I actually figure out what day it is on before I get my hopes up too much. thanks

I'll be at the derby...looking forward to it! Most likely I'll bring a boat...sounds like there might be a lot of shuttling needed.

Grilling some food up sounds like a good plan too.

I was wondering how people thought about tossing something into the "pot" for a prize. Nothing big, maybe one of your favorite fishing lures (new or used), or a pack of hooks, swivels, some flies, etc. Something around a couple bucks. And it wouldn't have to be something you buy...homemade stuff would be cool. Personally, I'd probably make up some slinkies, but it would be cool to see some like boilies, specialized rigs, etc.

Its always fun to see what tackle people like/use, so what better way to share! And I know this is a creative group!

Again, just an idea. And of course, it wouldn't be mandatory, just an option. Thoughts?

I like the idea of doing a prize pot.

Jknuth, I just caught a mooneye below the island last week. In fact I have it in the freezer to use as cat bait and proof that they do exist.

I will be there Saturday morning. Right now I am working on three different people to get them to come. Any idea what time the contest will officially start? It can be anytime for me all day. The wife is having a wedding shower... please don't make me go home early!

The river is incredibly low right now and easy to fish. Places where I used 4oz of lead this spring are now holding tight with only 0.5 oz.

That proves nothing! it could have been imported from out of state.
You could be in on the cruel joke, just like the others.

LOL

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't meant they aren't out to get me.

I am working on the award for the Largest drum caught, Ill post a pic of it when its ready.

I will be there early as possible with four possibly five others. Not sure how we are gonna get to the island as of yet however will work out.

I plan on brining some Buffalo summer sausage, cheese, and crackers to share and can pick up more WInona County Buffalo or Elk if anyone would like me to bring any. Its right around $5/lb for ground stuff.

Is it possible to wade to the island? Just curious.

I would be willing to throw in a guided day on the water in the SE for cold water species for the species contest winner, of course it would have to be limited to friday through sunday and will encourage anyone I bring to have something to throw in the prize pot, even if its just cash, food, or beverages as most of the jokers I bring fishing do not even have their own fishing pole or much less a tackle box.

No, it's not possible to wade to the island.

JKnuth has started an interesting new twist - biggest Drum caught at the Scumfoot roundup gets a special prize! I can't wait!

This is going to be a HOOT!
I am excited for sure.

ok well here is what I made up for the largest drum caught.
(Not sure how we will figure this out) perhaps measure the contender drum from time A to time B.
It would be nice if Corey and Andy get a shot at it. they were so busy running back and forth IDing fish on the root.

A halfcast Drum replica. I thought the panel was fitting for the poster child of the roughfish clan.

lol

See you all on the river next week!

I just got the O.K. from my boss to have the day off. I will bring my boat and plan on being there (Hidden Falls access) around 8-9. My boat can handle 5 people total so if you still need a ride shoot me a PM.
