Well we had a snap of Nice weather so my dad and I decided to hit a few spots before we are pushed into the deep freeze.
It was a great day!
We had a 10 species day 12 if you count hybrids
1. Carp
2. Walleye
3. Northern pike
4. Black crappie
5. Bluegill
6. Pumpkinseed
7. Green sunfish
8. Yellow perch
9. Largemouth bass
10. Hornyhead chub
11. Bluegill X Green hybrid
12. Pumpkinseed X Green hybrid
We ended up with about a dozen Nice panfish for dinner.
Today I decided to hit the same river solo.
I stopped where I caught the chub yesterday and picked up about 10 big chubs.
I put on my hip waders and waded downstream to a little honey hole I know of. Tough going but worth the trek.
The pool was filled with HUGE pike and bass along with schools of greater redhorse, quillback and carp.
I set out a nice chub on a freeline and WOOF!!
Big boil and screaming drag. a few minutes later I landed a 36" Northern (my personal Best pike)
After fumbling with a big fish and my stringer, I took a breath and sent out another chub.
BAM! next cast brought me a 30" Pike
This one I set free.
after a few shorter pike I ended the pike fishing with a nice 27" pike to add to my stringer.
This spot is my jewel and I normally will harvest no more then 2 pike a season from this river.
The health of this river is beyond belief.
There is literally a pike every 10 feet and none are snakes. I saw several today that were pushing the 40" mark
I decided to drift the pool with worms to see if I could get some Redhorse.
I landed 3 Greater Redhorse the largest was 28"
All and all a magical autumn day.
