Contest Kickoff Details - updated 6 Months ago
  • When: June 1, 2008 7:00 AM

  • Where: Coon Rapids Dam Regional Park

    http://www.anokacounty.us/departments/park_rec/qlinks/Parks/coonrapidsdam/coonrapidsdam.htm

  • What: Roughfish.com members will be gathering to start off the June species contest. Contest buttons will be available for $5. This is a great way to avoid paying shipping on your button if you live in the Twin Cities Area!

  • Species Etc: Carp, Channel Catfish, Golden Redhorse, Silver Redhorse, Shorthead Redhorse, Bigmouth Buffalo, Northern Hogsucker, Northern Pike, Black Crappie, White Crappie, Walleye, Green Sunfish, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Mooneye, Quillback, White Sucker, Bowfin, Bluegill, Black Bullhead, Brook Trout, Rainbow Trout, Freshwater Drum. Trout can be found in the trout lake downstream. Everyone is welcome, even if you're not competing in the contest. But please consider buying a button and posting your fish even if you don't plan on winning it all!

  • Exactly where? We'll meet in the parking lot (marked with an "X" on the map below) at 7:00 sharp and be fishing by 7:15. If you're late, look for people with roughfish.com contest buttons on. They should know where to get your button. Or just beat them up and take theirs. You can get ahold of the webmaster at 763-464-8443 if you can't find anybody.

  • Parking:There is a $5 daily fee to park your car in the lot. If you don't feel like paying, you can park on 99th Ave and walk in.

I stopped by the CRD this past Sunday, and there wasn't much room to fish. Tons of anglers around. Considering the Contest Kickoff will also be on a Sunday, I think we should push that start time up to 7 or 8 AM if we want to fish any good water. ~andy

OK ... we'll push it up a bit. Let's say 7:00 AM, so we can stake out a couple of the most enjoyable and species-rich spots. Should one of us stay close to the parking lot to pass out buttons for people arriving late?
