<p>So my pops just invited me on little trip to the Northeast this September. We'll be somewhere in Vermont on the shores of Lake Champlain for a few days, then roadtrippin to Gloucestire MA for the rest of the week. The wives will be with us, so we'll have limited time to sneak away for anything that can't be caught from shore on the big lake. Any RF peeps from the area? Advice? </p>
I fish both those areas extensively, but almost always from a boat. At Champlain, if you have access to a boat, the Smallmouth fishing can be amazing. From shore, you can fish the Lamoille River from the boat launch. Got my lifer Bluntnose Minnow there last year. Also, the 'Salmon Hole' on the Winooski River has a bunch of stuff (got Spotfin Shiners there).
At Gloucester, fish off the lighthouse breakwater at Gloucester Harbor. Don't know where you park, but lots of people fish there. Stripers, Mackerel, and a potpourri of bottom fish at times.
Turns out the salmon hole is very close to where we're staying. Looks awesome. Thanks.
Any chance you can make a day trip across the border to QC? Got tons of spots for Tench, Redhorse, Trout, micros, etc here if you can! Other than that, I haven't fished your side too much, but I do know a good spot for Cutlip Minnows, Spotfin Shiners, and other common supects near Plattsburgh.

Damn, too bad. Well let me know if you want that Cutlip spot. There's Trout, Bass and other standard-sized fish there too, not sure what interests you.

I used to live in Boston for a few years and did some shore-fishing in Massachusetts. Believe it or not, there is some interesting fishing to be found in Boston itself. Eel, carp, bullhead, and white perch are all present in the Charles River. The Merrimack River also has some interesting areas to fish in and around Lowell and Lawrence. I also fished the Connecticut River in Springfield and near the Vermont border, but did not have much success. I do recommend Brian Kologe's AMC Guide to Freshwater Fishing in New England. It helped me a lot as I considered places and species. It does not have any great maps, but it does list lakes and rivers that contain various species.
