Anybody planning to make Gooseneck area attempt in the next 3-4 weekends? I'm going to give it at least one shot but always good to get a few people out there.

Just made a run up there this weekend and I hope it stays a little cooler than it has... looking a bit sketchy and not much traffic but there was one shack close to shore. I'm sure it should be good especially by the next moon phase!

I’ll be there AND be square, wouldn’t miss it for the world. I’ll have some jars of fresh pickled northern to nosh on whilst we fish da bend. Ain’t nothin I like better than spotting a Wild Wrecked Angler on ice. Maybe we will hear his signature territorial shreak at dawn.
Mongrel said the ice condition were sketchy and there was only one portable out, and it was set up close to our access spot. He wouldn't even walk out to punch a hole. But it's supposed to cool down here over the next week which should hopefully tightened things up.
That spot usually freezes pretty fast but if I remember right the area got some poorly timed snow that probably set it back during those early cold days. 2.5 weeks could make a big difference though, depending on what the weather does so it might straighten out fine. I do know there is enough ice in Duluth Harbor for people to get rescued from so it may be good soon (since the harbor has far worse ice normally)
Yeah sorry hadn't even checked had partial gear with but looking real soggy on the other bank and that funky discoloration all over...sure with low temps maybe it's better... although the last 2 days they just got like 2' of snow says a friend that lives in Duluth...so I'm sure another week won't hurt...I can't wait though! I'd like to hit a nice full moon too! Maybe I'll just keep making the trip. Lol

Should we make solid plans to gather at Gooseneck Bend on the 12th?
After looking at the Moon phases, Jan 20th is is the full moon, and a SUPER moon - would it make sense to wait until then to go up and try to hit the big females at peak run? I know last year the FP4L crew caught a whole bunch of them up there around Jan 20.
My wife and I decieded to be up there for the whole long weekend (19th-21st) for sure. If anybody wants to go up the 12th or 13th I'd be game for a day trip then also
Thinking I might head up there like the 19-20th if I end up going on the 13th it may be a day trip but may just hang around for the 12th for some trout lake opportunity with a buddy...thin thinking anytime up there will be a good time!

I may still go the 19th (with a shack) out of ~40 fish I only caught one for sure female, a small one. I would expect fish to still be around from past experience. Likely might be slower action but might be more females, may shift back to a night bite as tends to happen on the backside of the spawn.
Well, I think we might run into a few big females as the Blood Moon approaches on Saturday. We found huge numbers of males last weekend, and to me that says the big fat females will be ripe for a run soon. I'm in, but only if somebody has room in a shack for me. The temp won't break zero. I'll bring beer, whiskey, bait and some bullshit stories. Any takers?
We aren't going up for the weekend now, due to external other items. Uncertain if I can swing a day trip the 19th, might be a last minute determination. Gut check given the weather I'll probably stick to local waters this weekend, if I'm gonna hide in my shack all day I'll probably just drive much closer and Sturg fish instead
Be there or be square! I'll be up all weekend maybe freeze to the river! Or truck won't start on the river and I'll have to live on lawyers and minnows!

Count me in. How does Jan 12th or 13th sound? Could do the prior weekend too.

Get any burbot Mongrel?
I took the first three weekends of January off work to make sure I had time to get up there. So I'll see you gents on the ice!

Thoughts?
I can make either. Might try to make both. For sure I'll put in an effort whatever day works best for everybody else.

Is this just open for anybody on here? I have this weekend off and I'm very interested by these fish.
I'll defer to Andy regarding the openness of the invite
Looks like a high of 0 degrees for the 19th...if anybody is still up for making the trip I'll join, but without a shack it will be kind of rough.
Hope they're not gone by the 19th...
All fish are beautiful.

Thanks for letting us fish there Corey and Andy! Really wish I could go back this weekend :(
