Quality Specimens 2017
<p>Through the hobby of lifelisting I have come to enjoy photographing my catches as much as I do finding and fishing for them. Nothing beats adding a new fish to the lifelist, but we all know not every day brings a new lifer so catching particularly large or beautiful specimens of the fish I catch often is the goal most of the time. I just figured out how to post photos to the forum (Finally) so I thought I&#39;d share some of my favorite photos I got this year of (mostly) micros.</p> <p>Fully colored male creek chub</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/creek%20chub_0.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /></p> <p>Large male Rainbow Darter</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/Large%20Rainbow%20Darter%20Griffy%20Creek%20%20%281%29.png" style="width: 800px; height: 449px;" /></p> <p>Logperch</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/logperch_1.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /></p> <p>A very Yellow Bullhead</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/yellowbullhead.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /></p> <p>Beautiful Male Steelcolor Shiner</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/steelcolor%20shiner.png" style="width: 800px; height: 449px;" /></p> <p>A very large (at least for my area) male Longear Sunfish, Look at that forehead!</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/5-26-17%20new%20orleans%20021.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" />&nbsp;This is the biggest striped shiner I have ever seen...... an absolute TANK. ~9&quot;</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/striped%20shiner.jpg" style="width: 800px; height: 600px;" /></p> <p>My favorite fish picture I took of 2017, a stud male Central Stoneroller caught actively spawning. Perfect specimen.</p> <p><img alt="" src="http://roughfish.com/sites/default/files/First%20Central%20Stoneroller%20Griffy%20Creek%202017%20%281%29.jpg" style="width: 768px; height: 1024px;" /></p> <p>Lets see those textbook patterned and jumbo sized small fish!</p>

Man, look at those fish. That logperch is truly breathtaking.

I caught a couple neat little specimens that I'll share here:

Colored up, spawning Hornyhead Chub. I love showing this picture to people and pointing out the dot behind the eye.

The next is either a Central or Largescale stoneroller - the lateral scale count is right on the overlap. Caught on standard gear by my buddy in the tail end of a riffle.

That’s a nice looking

That’s a nice looking hornyhead chub, love the clear dot behind his eye. The stoneroller you have there is a large scale. You can differentiate the large scale from the central by two features. The central has a row of three tubercles right above each nostril and a clear black band on the anal fin. The band is nonexistent or weak on large scales and they lack the tubercles right between the nostrils.

My Favorite Pics

I'm a tad late to the party but here's some of my favorite pics of beautiful specimens of 2017.

The first one I have (in no particular order) is a really spotty fiddler catfish I got in a small local creek.

Next up is an ALMOST immaculately scaled baby shorthead I got out of the same creek

I got this jumbo-sized pumpkinseed in the rocks at a local pond.

Last two (and possibly my favorite ones) were two baby largemouth I pulled out of a sunfish infested creek. They have patterns that made me think of those new bass that are being discovered down in the Southeast.

"I swear if you catch another drum"

That redhorse is immaculate!

That redhorse is immaculate! I have yet to find a pumpkinseed locally, they’re on the to do list for 2018, just not very common locally.... Those bass certainly look hybridized, I catch similar ones in creeks that hold both largemouth and spotted bass.
