Ohio Chrismas Trip

Hey guys. My family and I will be spending a little over a week around Christmas/New Years in north-central Ohio with my wife's family. I'm wondering if there's anybody on here nearby that would like to get together for some fishing, I can swing a day trip somewhere. I don't really know what fishing is available there in late December, but I'm sure there's something. Any takers, or anybody that can offer some tips? Swipe right for yes, or left for no lol

I live in PA, about 6 hours

I live in PA, about 6 hours east, but I can't imagine its much different. It'll probably be the beginning of ice season then. Maybe 1-2 inches on the lakes. Most of the fishing will be dead, maybe Brook Trout or Steelhead may be an option?

If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants

Either way you may wanna get in touch with CoolWaterFish from this site. He runs a page, https://coolwaterfish.com/, he'd have some additional insight for you.

Suckers

Suckers could be worth a try. If you find something that has some of them and isn't frozen, the dead of winter is actually a pretty good time for them.

Thanks guys

Thanks for the replies fellas.

I sort of imagine, I'll just find a nearby river and do some worm drowning and see if anything bites. Plenty of new species for me over there I'm sure.

Things are probably gonna

Things are probably gonna slow down a lot with this cold weather, and ice will increasingly become an issue going forward. Though, probably not enough to do any ice fishing.......hard to say.

One of the better options in the area during that time frame would be steelhead. The fishing for them remains decent(actually, really good sometimes) through the cold times if the rivers are fishable. Not sure where in NC Ohio you'll be, but the Rocky, Chagrin, and Grand rivers are popular and may be fishing well.....as well as some other rivers to the west and east depending where you're at.

Just gotta see what the ice situation is like....
