Monster Bighead

Caught it at the creek mouth after the inch and a half of rainfall caused a bighead run at the mouth of the creek. Caught it on a chartreuse ribbontail grub.

Wow. That's a beauty of an ugly! Congrats and well done! How long was the fight?

Wait! Why am I congratulating you on a huge fish and good use of proven tactics? I've heard they're impossible to catch, so you didn't catch that.

I'm curious what you did with it after the photo and what the regs are in MO about releasing/killing them (you're in MO, right?).

Are they invasive there? Do they eat small algae like a spoonbill? Cool fish!!

The gods do not subtract the alotted span in men's lives the hours spent in fishing.

They're invasive everywhere, and they filter plankton for most of their food.  I want to catch one though!

I've heard amazing things about them from a culinary standpoint....  Down here they're called Kentucky tuna!

Let there be fire!

I killed it and fed it to the turtles. There are like a thousand turtles that are always chomping on the dead asian carp in the creek, so I just put it in the water where they hang out and it was gone the next day. And they are possible to catch. You just have to be fishing at the right spot at the right time.

I know they're catchable! I've caught a silver and know plenty of people who've caught both kinds.

They are great to eat!
Both silvers and Bigheads. One that size has a good amount of meat.

Awesome catch!

I've caught tons of silver and bighead carp. Most of which are below Carlyle Dam, but this one was pulled out of a small stream.
